Angels Flight, by Michael Connelly

Following on directly from Trunk Music, this one sees Harry looking into the murder of Howard Elias, who's a big-shot black lawyer famous for suing the LA police department. No shortage of suspects then.

As in the previous book, there's a fair amount of politics going on, with Harry having to juggle the demands of the case with those of his superiors and peers as they try to assert their own agendas. The story takes place in the wake of the Rodney Hill riots, and so there's a lot of concern about what the repercussions might be if it turns out that a cop killed Elias.

Harry and Eleanor married in the previous book, and this one picks up the story of their relationship, which runs through this book. That gives a nice feeling of continuity.

Another good one.
