Bad News, by Edward St Aubyn

The second of the Patrick Melrose novels.

Takes place when Patrick is 22 and visiting USA to deal with his father's funeral. By now, Patrick is junkie and so trying to source heroin and cocaine.

Quite long passage when he’s on heroin(?) and hallucinating lots of people talking to him about various stuff. Found that a bit tiresome in the way that magic realism is tiresome.

Seems like a fairly convincing, unattractive picture of what it’s like to take drugs. Patrick doesn’t seem at all a sympathetic character unlike first book where you did feel sorry for him I think writing may be impressive but overall I didn't really enjoy it very much. Currently thinking I'll finish the third in the trilogy but not bother looking for more.
