Bedlam, by Christopher Brookmyre

This is Christopher Brookmyre doing science fiction, a bit like Pandaemonium if I remember rightly. And I don't think he's that good at it. In this one, the main character finds himself inside a video game.

As the story progresses, glitches appear in the world he's in, which means he can move into other game worlds and even glimpse what appears to be the "real world".

It didn't seem like a fantastically original idea, and didn't work for me because of the fantasy element - when you get your character in a tricky place, just invent something about the world and some miraculous and unforseeable twist can get him out of it. And it was too wordy.
