The Blue Ice, by Hammond Innes

A maverick explorer is reported dead after apparently discovering deposits of valuable minerals in Norway; a collection of goodies and baddies journey to Norway in an attempt to find out what happened to him and see if they can track down the location of his find.

I was reading this in the hope that it would be an edge-of-the-seat adventure yarn that would be hard to put down. But it turned out to be slow moving and fairly dreary (I felt the story lacked colour somehow - perhaps this is because it reminded me of B+W films, perhaps because it felt like a large part of the action was taking place at night either at sea or in mountain snowstorms).

I think that the book may be of its time (it was written in 1948); compared to more recent thrillers it seems to lack pace. I don't think I'll bother with any more by this author.
