Natural Causes, by James Oswald

Nasty ritual murder investigated by Edinburgh detective in what's rather ominously subtitled "first in the Detective Inspector McLean series". It was a 99p kindle cheapy one that had good reviews. I think I need to be a bit more sceptical about these good reviews.

Good writing and enjoyed the crime bits but didn't like the supernatural stuff, which meant that - like fantasy fiction - all bets were off in terms of being able to work out what might sensibly happen. That wasn't quite as distracting as I might have thought but it means I won't read any more in the series as I see they're all "crime procedural/supernatural cross-over"
