The third of the Patrick Melrose novels, taking place eight years after the previous book.

This made me laugh - on being told that the cost of decoration for husbands party came to:

"forty thousand, plus the dreaded"
Bridget had thought "the dreaded" was a technical decorating term, until Tony explained that it was VAT

Takes place over a couple of days and includes dinner party with princess Margaret who’s not very nice. Again like first book, everyone’s not very nice.

Patrick doesn’t appear much. Clean of drugs now. Tells his friend Jack (also recovering addict) of his father's abuse. This book sees him sort of coming to some sort of peace with the memory of his father perhaps that’s partly what the book title refers to.
