Where the Light Gets In, by Lucy Dillon

Lorna has failed in an attempt to be an artist and comes home to use the remainder of her inheritance to buy and run an art shop She volunteers at a hospice and inherits a dog from one of the patients she works with. Then meets reclusive artist Joyce in attempt to get some of her paintings for the shop. Joyce notoriously unapproachable but has dog and they start to bond.

Various other members of lornas family have crises which involve Lorna trying to help out at the same time as her trying to get shop successful and coping with meeting childhood flame Sam who still lives there.

Not fantastically great - bit of a tear jerker when Joyce gets cancer and there is a race to complete Lornas big idea for the village: knitted flowers and trees to cover the whole place “yarn storm”. This kept bothering me because I couldn’t help thinking “what on earth is Going to happen to all those knitted flowers when they take it all down? They’re all going to be manky from being outside and there are tons of them: what a waste”

Will they get yarnstorm done in time for Joyce go see it? Will Lorna get together with Sam? Will lornas sister and her husband heal their marriage? What do you think.

Wouldn’t bother reading another by this author
