The Tempest

I was feeling pretty ill this day so didn’t concentrate as much as I should have liked.

Very colourful and impressive production, with Lion-King like puppets. Story of Arial being imprisoned by Sycorax very effective (see pic above)


But I didn’t feel the whole thing gelled very well - if I hadn’t read it first I wouldn’t have worked out what was going on. I’d like to see a more conventional production.

Production emphasised Prospero’s tyranny over Arial and Caliban, and Caliban came across a bit too sympathetically I thought - the fact that he’d tried to rape Miranda was easy to miss.

“I am a fool to weep at what I am glad of” - what a line! but she didn’t do it right.

vocab: “bootless” == useless, fruitless
