Another recommendation from A Good Read
I can't remember what they said about it - I was expecting an unreliable narrator thing, which this wasn't (unless it was extremely subtle) so I think I got it mixed up with another book
Quite well written but I didn't really get caught up in it. There was a recurring character in there Hector Bartlett, who's a writer that the narrator (working in book publishing) calls "pisseur de copie" to his face, which gets her fired from her job, and then also her next job when she does it again. He reminded me a bit of Widmerpool in that he kept turning up
I just looked up a review of the book to confirm Bartlett's name, and that review (in the guardian) praises the book highly for it's nostalgic and warm evocation of what it's like to work in a publishing house. Perhaps if I'd ever have done that, I'd have liked the book more.
