Philosophy

Before starting my BA Philosophy degree, I had little idea what to expect - I had never been to university before. I would really have found it useful to see examples of the type of questions that might be set, and some “good” and “bad” examples of work.

So maybe someone else will find this information useful: I have published all the essays I handed in during the course, along with the marks which those essays achieved, which range from 2.2 up to 1st. Some of them I’m proud of, others make me cringe.

These are the modules I did, along with the marks I achieved. To start with, I tried to keep lecture notes, but ran out of steam after the first year, so there are no notes for most of the latter part of the degree.

The structure of the degree program when I did it was that you needed 120 credits from each year. You have to pass (40% or more) each module. For the final classification, year 1 marks are ignored; year 2 marks count for 33% and year 3 marks 66% towards your degree.

My overall result was a 2.1
